Adirondack Is Back - The Hot New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture!

It's not a big surprise that a classic American design such as the Adirondack Chair has made such a comeback in just the last couple of years. This craze is spreading quickly since people all over the country are choosing to spend a lot more of their free time relaxing in their carefully crafted outdoor living space. I remember as a 6 year old, sliding completely back into one of these great old chairs, with my legs hanging just barely over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled apples from the trees and mused about the homemade apple pie smothered with vanilla ice cream that we just knew granny would have waiting for us after dinner that night. With my lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and calm. When Grandpa told his stories it made time fly by. It really is no mystery why we love to unwind and relax outdoors, whether that is sitting on the porch watching the neighborhood, out on the patio, on the deck, or in your garden area. There just might not be a better way to do that than to sit in a deep seated, high backed, comfortable Adirondack chair and leave your troubles behind.

Where exactly did this piece of Americana come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This furniture style was customary at the various vacation resorts and mountain getaways that were so fashionable back in the day. By the time 1940 came around you could find Adirondack almost every place. The style began to move south and was heading west quickly. As the Adirondack design started to get more popular, and found its way around the country, influences regionally began to show up. The furniture design was applied to several styles of outdoor furniture which include; gliders, benches, porch swings, rocking chairs, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece they call the "tete a tete" which translates literally to; "head to head". This enchanting little design incorporates a couple of chairs and a table in between them constructed as one piece. What a fantastic way to spend a warm Spring day with a good friend!

You're going to be amazed and happy to find a huge collection of Adirondack style furniture that is available today. The original furniture design has not only stood the test of time, but the Adirondack trend has exploded with a great collection of styles, material, finishes, and colors. Classic Adirondack furniture is constructed from wood that's known to resist bugs and corrosion like oak, white or red cedar, cherry, or cypress. The wood chosen will vary depending on the part of the country as do specific furniture designs. A popular new extra in classical Adirondack style is patio furniture constructed with polymer "lumber" that's made from plastic recycled packaging, old milk cartons, and other things. Not only is this an environmentally friendly way to invest in furniture, but you also have some advantages with easy care, longevity, durability, and colors won't pale as the pigment is mixed through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors added for protection.
